This week’s mystery movie was the 1935 Columbia film “She Married Her Boss,” with Claudette Colbert, Melvyn Douglas, Michael Bartlett, Raymond Walburn, Jean Dixon, Katherine Alexander, Edith Fellows, Clara Kimball Young, Grace Hale and Charles E. Arnt. Screenplay by Sidney Buchman, story by Thyra Souter Winslow, photography by Leon Shamroy, editing by Richard Cahoon, art direction by Stephen Goosson, directed by Gregory La Cava.

“She Married Her Boss” has never been commercially released on DVD or VHS. It is available on streaming via Amazon and shows up occasionally on TCM.

Writing in the New York Times (Sept. 27, 1935), Andre Sennwald said:

Once again the lively Columbia studios renew their gift for refreshing tired materials in “She Married Her Boss,” the new film at the Radio City Music hall. Last season, when a plague of bus odysseys had eaten away every patch of greenery in that particular pasture, Columbia boldly deposited its players on a bus and made history and “It Happened One Night.” Now the studio stakes out the venerable “Office Wife” theme with eagerness and faith, and erects a merry romantic comedy on the ruins. Although it looks suspiciously like what Brooks Atkinson likes to call old hat, “She Married Her Boss” has an irresistible comic dash, and it is briskly performed by Claudette Colbert, Melvyn Douglas, Michael Bartlett and a superbly impish little girl named Edith Fellows.

Would today’s mystery gal be Mary Boland? By the way, that looks like the same desk lamp in Monday’s and Tuesday’s pictures. Same office, too?

No, but it is the same office… I will try for more scenic variety for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, this print isn’t all that great and although the film looks OK when it’s in motion, individual frames suffer from degradation.

Okay – the movie is She Married Her Boss 1935
    Monday is Michael Bartlett
Tuesday – I think is Clara Kimball Young
and Wednesday is Raymond Walburn (the ‘sans moustache’ look did indeed guide me)

I can guess the two stars who’ll arrive on Friday (I found in a photo showing the lead actress sitting near that same lamp, by-the-way.) I’m curious about who will be there Thursday – maybe Katherine Alexander???

Looking forward to tomorrow’s breakdown. I hope there’s a mention of Jean Dixon, whose performance with Edward Everett Horton I adored in ‘Holiday’.

This was a fun one. Thanks.
