May 12, 2018, Jolly Fellows
This week’s mystery movie has been the 1934 Soviet film “Jolly Fellows,” also known as “Moscow Laughs.” I chose it because it was shown last Sunday at the George Eastman Museum as part of its Nitrate Picture Show.

“Jolly Fellows” was directed by Grigoriy Aleksandrov, with Leonid Utyosov, Lyubov Orlova, Mariya Strelkova, Elena Tyapkina, Fyodor Kurikhin, Arnold Arnold, Robert Erdman,  Marya Ivanovna, and Emmanuil Geller.

It’s on YouTube.

The actor in the middle on Friday is whoever the carriage driver was. I see he is not credited, despite his having a pretty big part speaking and dancing toward the end of the film. The actress on the left for Friday is our little maid, Lyubov Orlova — I see I goofed above and placed her name as our leading man on the right who is (corrected here), Kostya, played by Leonid Utyosov.
