‘Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood’ at the Toronto Film Festival – Oh Dear

Scotty Bowers, author of the b.s.-laden book “Full Service,” is the subject of a “documentary” (cough, cough) by Matt Tyrnauer. Image courtesy of the Vanity Fair, which really ought to know better.

This is Scotty Bowers, who wrote a heaping pile of garbage called “Full Service,” which makes “Hollywood Babylon” look distinguished film scholarship. Back in 2012, I took a deep dive into fact-checking the book, which you can find here in 26 parts:

Fact-Checking “Full Service”: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Part 11 | Part 12 | Part 13 | Part 14 | Part 15 | Part 16 | Part 17 | Part 18 | Part 19 | Part 20 | Part 21 | Part 22 | Part 23 | Part 24 | Part 25 | Part 26

It was obvious from the first look that “Full Service” was utter b.s. Despite Bowers’ many claims about himself and the sex lives of Hollywood stars, there isn’t a single picture of him with any of them.

Not. One. Damn. Picture. With. Anyone. Famous.

I mention this because a “documentary” (cough, cough) about him will be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival at 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Tickets are $32.

The “documentary” (cough, cough) screened in Cannes, but evidently nobody wrote a critique of it afterward. How unfortunate.

”Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood” promises to be one hour and 38 minutes of your life that you can never get back. You have been warned.

I can’t even type the horrible things I think about that book and the idiot(s) who would make a documentary about him. All I can hope is that it’s an exposé. It really breaks my heart that people who become interested in the world of film read that garbage and believe it. I don’t mind the bad with the good, those olden time stars were human, after all. But I hate lies. Even Hollywood Babylon was presented more as “gossipy trash” than what really happened. Thank you for putting the truth out there. It means a lot to those of us who feel a kinship with those classic hollywood stars. Peace.

“Full Service” is an abomination. That someone would make a “documentary” (cough, cough) based on those claims is ridiculous.

From the “documentarian” himself, by way of Vanity Fair:

” ‘I don’t think it’s exaggerating to say that you could count the people on one hand who could give you this information, and it’s possible that only Scotty is the lone survivor of this period,” Tyrnauer says.’ ”

It’s entirely possible Scotty is the lone person with this information, too.

Deepest thanks, Larry H, for calling Scotty’s B.S. as it is. Can’t believe those wheezy stories are still rolling along. Your refutes are superior to the source material.

Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news . . . Between this and that new piece-of-crap “documentary” on poor Jayne Mansfield, I wonder why I spent all those years doing “research” looking for “facts.”

Thank you Larry for keeping honesty and integrity alive. Hollywood history is important and shouldn’t tarnished with lies. How is your Black Dahlia book coming along?

Scotty Bowers? I just lost my lunch. This loser is nothing more than the “nice” David Bret.
