This week’s mystery movie was the 1934 Vitaphone short “Movie Memories,” one of many films to use that title. The film is a compilation of silent clips accompanied by a rather maudlin narration about deceased movie stars. It is not available on DVD.
I’m doing something a bit different this week. These are images from a Vitaphone short that were compiled from earlier clips. We begin with a mystery guest and his trusty friend. Note: He has 140 films to his credit.
Update: This is Roy Stewart. His grave is in Mt. Hope Cemetery, San Diego.
For Tuesday, we have a second mystery cowpoke. Again, this is a Vitaphone short that was compiled from earlier movie clips. He has 113 films to his credit.
Update: This is Art Acord. His grave is located in Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, Glendale, Calif.
Brain Trust roll call: Mary Mallory for anticipating this fellow today.
For Wednesday, we have ….. I think you have the wrong disc in the DVD player. He only has 80 movies to his credit.
Update: Tom Hanks in “Sully.”
Nope, not him either. He only has 56 movies to his credit.
Update: Denzel Washington in “The Magnificent Seven.”
There you go. For Wednesday, we have a mystery gent in a tuxedo. He has 130 films to his credit.
Update: This is George Siegmann. His grave is in Calvary Cemetery, Los Angeles.
Brain Trust roll call: Mike Hawks (mystery movie and mystery guests), Sheila (Tuesday’s mystery cowboy) and Lee Ann, Megan and Thom (Tuesday’s mystery cowboy).
For Thursday, we have a mystery woman in a sombrero. She has 220 films to her credit.
Update: This is Mabel Normand. Her grave is in Calvary Cemetery, Los Angeles.
Brain Trust roll call: J.R. Sanders (Tuesday’s mystery cowboy), Mike Hawks (Wednesday’s mystery gent) and Mary Mallory (mystery short and Wednesday’s mystery gent).
And for Friday, we have this famous chap. A mere 39 movies to his credit.
Update: This is Rudolph Valentino, perhaps the most famous resident of Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Brain Trust roll call: Mary Mallory (Monday’s and Thursday’s mystery guests), Mike Hawks (Thursday’s mystery guest), Mandie Marie (Thursday’s mystery guest), Lee Ann Megan and Thom (Thursday’s mystery guest) and Patrick (Wednesday’s mystery guest).

I’m terrible with the early cowboys. As far as I can tell, the bigger the hat, the bigger the star. Or maybe it was the direct opposite. Gene Autry and Tom Mix seem too obvious for a Monday picture, so I’m going to guess Fred Thomson.
