This week’s mystery movie has been the 1957 RKO film “All Mine to Give,” with Glynis Johns, Cameron Mitchell, Rex Thompson, Patty McCormack, Ernest Truex, Hope Emerson, Alan Hale, Sylvia Field, Royal Dano, Reta Shaw, Stephen Wootton, Butch Bernard, Yolanda White, Rita Johnson, Ellen Corby, Rosalyn Boulter, Francis DeSales and Jon Provost.

It was written by Dale and Katherine Eunson from a story by Dale Eunson published in Cosmopolitan Magazine. It was photographed by William Skall with music by Max Steiner, art direction by Albert S. D’Agostino and Frank T. Smith, set decoration by Glen Daniels, editing by Bettie Mosher and costumes by Bernice Pontrelli. It was produced by Sam Wiesenthal and directed by Allen Reisner.

The DVD is available from Amazon.

“All Mine to Give” opened in Los Angeles on May 14, 1958, as the second half of a double bill with another RKO film, “I Married a Woman,” starring George Gobel and Diana Dors.

Writing in the Los Angeles Times (May 17, 1958), Geoffrey M. Warren said:

“All Mine to Give” deserves much better merchandising, for it could stand on its own very well…. The screenplay, slow in spots, was written by Dale and Katherine Eunson. Eunson is a descendant of the family concerned in the story.

Writing in the New York Times (Aug. 4, 1959) Richard Nason said:

AN affecting situation wherein a freckled flock of youngsters is left parentless by the scourges of frontier America during the last century is cast upon the screen with genuine pathos and touching sentiment in “All Mine to Give.” The film arrived at various neighborhood theatres yesterday.

Based on the magazine story “The Day They Gave Babies Away” by Dale Eunson, who transcribed his story to film terms with Katherine Eunson, it turns out to be a picture that can wring the heart, despite its removal from the multi-dimensional rationalizations of life today. Etched by the color cameras, in dark tones against the snowscapes of Wisconsin, it is a film that delineates the sharp terms of a child’s discovery of the adult world of tragedy in moving enactments.
