This week’s mystery movie has been the 1948 film “Raw Deal,” released by Eagle-Lion Films, starring Dennis O’Keefe, Claire Trevor, Marsha Hunt, John Ireland, Raymond Burr, Curt Conway and Chili Williams. It was written by Leopold Atlas and John C. Higgins, from a story by Arnold B. Armstrong and Audrey Ashley. It was photographed by John Alton and directed by Anthony Mann.
And for Monday, we have a mystery gent on the phone.
Update: This is Cliff Clark.
And for Tuesday, a mystery gent chats with a couple of mystery police officers.
Update: This is Gregg Barton, left, with John Daheim and Carey Loftin.
Note: These are underexposed “day for night” shots, so I have had to lighten them considerably to make them readable. They are much darker in the film. I have also cropped Tuesday’s mystery photo to make it easier to see our mystery guest.
Brain Trust roll call: Howard Mandelbaum (Monday’s mystery guest), Michael Ryerson (Monday’s mystery guest) and Don Danard (Monday’s mystery guest).
And for Wednesday, we have a mystery gent building a house of cards while another mystery fellow watches.
Update: This is Tom Fadden, left, with John Ireland.
Brain Trust roll call: Dlhartzog (mystery movie and cast), Lee Ann, Thom and Megan (Monday’s mystery guest) and Don Danard (mystery police officer)
And for Thursday, who could resist this arty shot of a mystery woman?
Update: This is Claire Trevor.
Brain Trust roll call: Julie Merholz (mystery movie, Monday’s mystery guest, Tuesday’s mystery police officer, Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect), Charles Kjelland (Wednesday’s house of cards architect), Patrick (mystery movie, Monday’s and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Sheila (mystery movie and Monday’s and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Mary Mallory (Wednesday’s house of cards architect), Jenny M (mystery movie, Wednesday’s mystery guests), Mike Hawks (mystery movie and Monday’s and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Howard Mandelbaum (mystery movie, Tuesday’s mystery police officer and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Gary Martin (Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect), Don Danard (Wednesday’s mystery guests), Michael Ryerson (mystery movie and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Sarah (Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect), Rick (Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect), Lee Ann, Thom and Megan (mystery movie and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Benito (Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect), Richard Wegescheide (mystery movie, Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect), Barbara Klein (mystery movie, Monday’s mystery guest, two-thirds of Tuesday’s mystery guests and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Dewey Webb (Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect), Patrick (Tuesday’s mystery guest) and Ed (Wednesday’s mystery house of cards architect).
And here is the setup to that shot. Notice the flaming dish on the right. Rick Coyle (Raymond Burr) throws it on an unfortunate individual.
For Friday, our mystery guest contradicts the old saying that revenge is a dish best served cold.
Update: Raymond Burr in his pre-Perry Mason era as a villain.
Brain Trust roll call: Julie Merholz (Thursday’s mystery minute maid), Howard Mandelbaum (Thursday’s mystery minute maid), Mary Mallory (mystery movie, mystery police officers, mystery minute maid), Mike Hawks (Thursday’s mystery minute maid), Anne Papineau (mystery movie, mystery minute maid), Barbara Klein (mystery minute maid), Michael Ryerson (Thursday’s mystery minute maid), Arye Michael Bender (Wednesday’s house of cards architect), Patrick (Thursday’s mystery minute maid), Maricatrin (Monday’s mystery guest, Wednesday’s rustic gent), Rick (mystery movie and Thursday’s mystery minute maid) and LC (mystery movie and mystery cast).

Today it’s Cliff Clark. I should say “the original Cliff Clark” as I believe there’s an actor these days with the same name.

Flat out, I don’t know him. But I must comment on the composition, lighting, and set design. All are pure film noir. One doesn’t need dialogue or action to understand the mood and tone of the film. Pitch perfect!

NOT FOR PUBLICATION
Do you have any idea where IMDB gets the cast info?
And if “they” (whoever figures out who played unbilled elevator operator in obscure 1943 Republic programmer) why is info so sketchy on relatively recent films like MYRA BRECKINRIDGE, where there seems to be no actor dis on people who had substantial minor roles?

I believe the Police Officer in the middle is Johnny Daheim, sometimes billed as John Day.

Well, John Ireland building the house of cards while Tom Fadden (The Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ strangely placid Uncle Ira) makes this one Raw Deal (1948) a noir title if ever there was one.

Although it’s sometimes hard to tell when they’ve got their face screwed tight emoting, I feel kinda safe saying this isn’t Dennis O’Keefe so I’m going with the only other male lead not yet mentioned, Raymond Burr.
