Update: Yes, there actually is printing on this newspaper – it’s just not legible in the screen grab.

No, this isn’t our mystery guest (I promised no more Back of the Head Guy) but it’s a man in a newsboy cap actually selling newspapers and how cool is that?

For Monday, we have this mystery gent.

Update: Our judge is Frank Dae. Notice that he is wearing a suit, rather than robes, which is correct for this era.

And for Tuesday, we have a mystery gent smoking a cigar.

Update: This is Selmer Jackson.

And for Wednesday, it’s our old friend, Oh Him.

Maxie Rosenbloom.

Please congratulate Don Danard for identifying Tuesday’s mystery gent.

And for Thursday, we have this familiar pinstriped gent.

This is John Eldredge.

Please congratulate Charles Kjelland (Wednesday’s mystery guest), Ed (Wednesday’s mystery guest), Gary Martin (Wednesday’s mystery guest), Mary Mallory (Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s mystery guests), Don Danard (Wednesday’s mystery guest)  and sorry, no Torchy Blane, Jenny M (Wednesday’s mystery guest), Pat van Hartesveldt (Wednesday’s mystery guest),  Dewey Webb (Wednesday’s mystery guest), Lee Ann, Megan and Thom (Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s mystery guests),  Dan Nather (Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s mystery guests — and the mystery studio) and Bob Hansen (Wednesday’s mystery guest).

And for Friday, we have the stars of our mystery picture.

Jane Wyman with Dick Foran, who was often cast as a singing cowboy.

And a mystery woman making an urgent phone call.

This is the unfortunate Gloria Dickson, who died April 10, 1945, in a fire at 1630 Haslam Terrace, a home she was renting from Sidney Toler.

Please congratulate Mary Mallory (mystery film and guests), Don Danard (Thursday’s mystery guest), Lee Ann, Megan and Thom (mystery movie and Thursday’s mystery guest), Julie Merholz (Wednesday’s mystery guest) and Dan Nather (mystery movie).

Friday’s mystery telephone caller is the tragic Gloria Dickson. Her line in “Crime Doctor’s Strangest Case”–“I’m practically cremated”–is chilling. The two in the clinch are Jane Wyman and Dick Foran.

John Eldredge! Another guy I’m familiar with, but can never remember his right name. And I think I confused Gloria Dickson with Gertrude Michael from a while back. Shows what can happen when you’re guessing at a film you’ve never seen. Will have to look for this one . . .

Speaking of the Dick Foran westerns for Warner Brothers – most of them were re-makes of the John Wayne westerns for Warners some years earlier … and they in turn were remakes of Ken Maynard dusters for earlier than that!
