This week’s movie has been the 1946 Columbia picture “The Devil’s Mask,” written and directed by Carlton E. Morse and based on the radio show “I Love a Mystery.”
“The Devil’s Mask” is of special interest around the Daily Mirror HQ because it features Barton Yarborough, right, who played Ben Romero, Joe Friday’s partner in the radio version of “Dragnet.” In “The Devil’s Mask,” he plays a detective working with Jim Bannon, left. Yarborough died Dec. 19, 1951, a few days after he made his TV debut in the television version of “Dragnet.”
And for Monday, we have a mystery gent with a curious box.
And for Tuesday, a mystery woman.
Please congratulate Don Danard, Mike Hawks, Mary Mallory, Megan, Le Ann and Thom, and Rick Scott for identifying Monday’s mystery gent. Megan, Le Ann and Thom say: “He made a career out of quick talking sarcasm!”
And for Wednesday, a mystery gent.
Please congratulate Megan Lee Ann and Thom for identifying our mystery woman. I’ll give Gary Martin half-credit for the wrong actress but with a name that’s very close to our mystery woman.
And for Thursday, a mystery woman.
And our mystery guest for Friday. Now we know what’s in the box carried by Monday’s mystery gent.
Please congratulate Mary Mallory (mystery movie and cast), Jenny M (Thursday’s mystery woman), Mike Hawks (mystery movie and cast), Megan, Lee Ann and Thom (mystery movie and cast) and Rick Scott (Thursday’s mystery woman).

Best mysterious box ever was in ‘Kiss Me Deadly’. Though I don’t know the actor who played it.

Our lovely lady today is Mona Barrie. When her career started she was a bit stiff, but as her career went on she became very much better, usually playing an intelligent, sophisticated lady with a sense of humor.

The blonde is Anita Loos.

I meant Anita Louise, the actress – not Anita Loos, the author of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Why do I always confuse the author’s and the actress’s name spelling? One of those brain quirks.

I think the shrunken head was supposed to be Louise’s guardian, an explorer. The trouble was whether it was murder or not.
