This is the 1933 film “Girl Missing.” It opened in Los Angeles at the Warner Bros. Western Theater (now the Wiltern) on March 23, 1933, with “Untamed Africa.”
And for Monday, we have a mystery elevator operator.
For Tuesday, our mystery city editor is tearing up Page 1 (notice the rear-projection newsroom).
And today we have a mystery (not) woman and mystery gent who is giving her a hard time.
Please congratulate Barbara Klein for identifying the mystery movie and cast.
For Thursday, our mystery matron is having a conversation with …
… a mystery gent.
Please congratulate Mary Mallory (mystery movie and cast), Don Danard (Wednesday’s mystery guests), Dewey Webb (Wednesday’s mystery woman), Barbara Klein (Wednesday’s mystery guests), Mandy Marie (Wednesday’s mystery woman), Julie Merholz (mystery movie and cast), Mike Hawks (mystery movie and cast), Floyd Thursby (mystery movie and cast), Rick (Wednesday’s mystery woman) and Valley Dave (mystery movie and cast).
For Friday, our mystery guest … oh dear, is that a Smith & Wesson?
Well she doesn’t always have a gun. Here she is being a bit more pleasant with some other mystery guests.
Please congratulate Julie Merholz (Thursday’s mystery guests), Mary Mallory (Thursday’s mystery guests), Mike Hawks (Thursday’s mystery guests) and Barbara Klein (Thursday’s mystery guests).

While I don’t know who the lad in the photo is, it made me think back to all the elevator operators I knew when such jobs were common. They were all actors in their own way. Most knew the personal business of the building they worked in, and were the best source of news and gossip. Something that has been replaced with social media communications, and not nearly as reliable.

Monday’s elevator operator is Willie Best, an African-American actor I wish was more appreciated. His roles are tough to watch for modern viewers (I just watched him in Nancy Drew, Trouble Shooter), He was a pioneer – regardless of the roles he played.
Willie played an elevator operator in at least 5 films, but I’ve got my guess whittled down to 2 films. I don’t recognize Tuesday’s guy..

Very well said. But alas, no. I’ll keep an eye on him for a future mystery movie, however. 🙂

When was the last time you saw a live elevator operator? The last I saw was at the Oakland, CA courthouse, I think in the 1980s.

There’s actually still one at the old Desmond’s Department Store on Wilshire Blvd. He was featured in the LA Times, I think in 2011.
