This week’s movie is “Let Us Be Gay” (1930).

A March 4, 1930, article in the Los Angeles Times about the making of the film said that some sequences were to be in Technicolor. “It may, in fact, be done entirely in color,” The Times said. (Obviously wrong).

The Sept. 13, 1930, review by Philip K. Scheuer called it an inferior variation of Norma Shearer’s previous film, “The Divorcee”  (1930), which had a similar plot, but suffered from being rather stagey, having been adapted from a play by Rachel Crothers. And yes, Scheuer noted that leading man Rod La Rocque was miscast. “Mr. La Rocque’s self-consciousness remains acute through the picture, destroying the verisimilitude of the scenes,” Scheuer said.

And apologies for overlooking Mandiemarie20, who identified our mystery lad.

And for Monday, we have this mystery couple: the poet and his muse.

A note to those who submitted mystery requests: I’m going to put your mystery movies on a wish list. I don’t have any of them in the Daily Mirror archives and they aren’t at the local video emporium, on Netflix or in my friends’ collections. Several of them are online, but in such low resolution that they won’t reproduce well. Be assured that I have saved a list of them and I’ll be looking for good copies.

Please congratulate Mary Mallory (mystery lad), Chrisbo (mystery lad), Dewey Webb (mystery lad), Jenny M (mystery lad), Mike Hawks (mystery telephone guy and mystery lad), LC (mystery movie and cast), Don Danard (mystery lad), Mandie Marie (mystery lad) and Jo Anne (mystery lad).

O.k.,, the mad lady from Thursday is Marie Dressler. The 3 years later lady is Norma Shearer. I still think the kid is Dickie Moore (Even though my guess was never commented on). Dickie was just too cute! The film is “Let Us Be Gay”. So the guy reading must be Rod La Rocque to Hedda Hopper/
