This is “Mr. Wu,” directed by William Nigh, starring Lon Chaney, with Louise Dresser, Renee Adoree, Ralph Forbes and …

“Mr. Wu” was based on a play by Henry Maurice Vernon and Harold Owen, adapted by Lorna Moon with titles by Lotta Woods. Designed by Cedric Gibbons and Richard Day, with costumes by Lucia Coulter and edited by Ben Lewis and photographed by John Arnold.

This isn’t the first time I have criticized a score added to a silent movie (I did hear from a Robert Israel fan who took me to task about my comments), but the score by Maria Newman is just awful.

To add authenticity, some of the titles are apparently in Chinese. These go by pretty fast, so I’m not even sure I have them in the correct order.

This week has been something of a poser for the brain trust — so far only two people have identified our mystery film, Jenny M and Barbara Klein. So I thought I would have two mystery guests for Thursday. Our mystery chap is first….

And this mystery (not) woman is second.

And for Friday, our mystery man of a thousand faces, just as some of you predicted…

Please congratulate Mary Mallory (mystery movie and cast), Don Danard (Thursday’s mystery folks), Chrisbo (Thursday’s mystery woman), Patrick (mystery movie and cast), Mike Hawks (mystery movie and cast), Barbara Klein (Thursday’s mystery folks), William (Thursday’s mystery woman), Rick (mystery movie and cast), Floyd Thursby (Thursday’s mystery gent), Julie Merholz (Thursday’s mystery woman), Sarah (mystery movie and cast), ValleyDave (mystery movie and cast) and Rick Scott (mystery movie and cast).

And by the way, it’s Mary Mallory’s birthday, so be sure to wish her a Happy Birthday!

Now that we see Lon Chaney, it has to be “Bits of Life”, 1921 & here I am on a Friday again. This film being an anthology of 4 different stories, I wont try to sort it out but will submit my idea that at least the photos of Wong & Chaney are from the segment titled “”Chinese Story”

Based on the hint, Friday is going to be Lon Chaney, Sr. Monday: Sonny Loy, Tuesday: Claude King, Wednesday: Renee Adoree, Thursday: Ralph Forbes and Anna May Wong. I think Larry is trying to pull a fast one, because it’s hard to distinguish Renee and Anna May….because of the makeup and costumes. The film is “Mr. Wu.” This is the best I can do.
