Los Angeles, Hollywood’s Back Lot

Cillie Barnes Video

Cillie Barnes Video

I went to dinner last night at Grand Central Market and got these shots of a group filming a video. And since we’re all good Angelenos, we went “oh yeah, a film crew, a guy with a Stedicam”  and went about our business (except for me and the guy in the background getting a shot with his cellphone). A little investigation revealed that it was Cillie Barnes.

    This building was originally 1.) a department store, 2.) a hotel lobby, 3.) a downtown cafeteria ?

Gary, it’s always been Grand Central Market. It started out as a farmers market c. 1917 and has gone through several reinventions that now include produce, small food kiosks, etc. At the moment it is being gentrified as part of the downtown Los Angeles renaissance, so it’s becoming a bit more upscale.
