And this movie would be? I know, too easy, right?
[Update: Sorry to all of you who thought this was Jean Dujardin in “The Artist.” It’s “OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies,” which opens with a black and white sequence. Please congratulate Mary Mallory, Benito and Matt Deckard for identifying the film.]
It’s Jean Dujardin, but unless it’s a cut scene, it’s not THE ARTIST. Is this OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies?

In cinemascope. Very easy, yes.

Wait, this is the original concept for THE ARTIST, where the Nazis ascend in power as the film industry changes in Germany.

The one were Jean Dujardin does his best Gene Kelly impression? I, unfortunately, have not seen it yet. Living in a small town can be a negative.

Gene Kelly via Douglass Fairbanks. Superb, magical movie. Perhaps this year’s Best Picture for the sheer artistry of the entire production. And its genuine love for old Hollywood.

Jean Dujardin in The Artist?

Jean Dujardin in OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies, a very funny spy spoof. He is a French agent disguised as a pilot in a Nazi airplane, probably a Ju 52. PS Don’t miss Berenice Bejo in this one!

His mustache is just like mustaches of the late 1920s-early 1930s. I’ve seen plenty of stars with this look, I don’t know why, it does look goofy.

Hmm…I’m not going to take the obvious route. He looks younger here than he does in “The Artist,” and I don’t recall him wearing that odd little moustache. I’ll say it’s from, “Rio ne répond plus”.

It’s gotta be a trick; you never make ’em THAT easy. If it’s Jean Dujardin, where’s the cleft in his chin? Also, the nose is too wide. If it’s not him, the resemblance sure is amazing.

If Hollywood ever made a movie about Gene Kelly, he could play the part.

Screen test of a young Akim Tamiroff in The Ricardo Montalban Story (filmed in Vaseline-O-Vision)?
Seriously, Dujardin will probably (and deservedly) win Oscar. But let’s hope he doesn’t go Roberto Benigni crash-course-to-obscurity route by acting like J. Fred Muggs when name is announced.

Akim Tamiroff was never had a young face. He was ‘old when he was young’. Maybe that’s why The Ricardo Montalban Story was never released. It lies somewhere on a shelf made of rich, Cordovan Leather.

He sure looks like Gilbert Roland, only not as handsome.

Speaking of newer movies in small towns, “The artist” opened in Fargo ND this past weekend and what a FINE example of storytelling and movie-making it was. Jeepers. I think that it’s got the whole package: acting, writing, directing (but I haven’t seen all of the nominees yet, neither). Did I mention acting? I don’t think that ever seen a pair of more _engaging_ actors in quite some time than the 2 human stars of “The artist.”

We were led through the garden path, and most of us followed the ‘this is easy’ clue over the cliff. Good thing it was Cliff Norton. At least we had a laugh. (Obscure Chicago character comic who also made the track west).
