July 22, 1943, Du Barry Was a Lady"

Update: This is Bobby Readick in “Harrigan’s Kid,” co-billed on July 22, 1943, with “Du Barry Was a Lady” at Grauman’s, the Carthay Circle, Lowe’s State and the Fox Ritz – that’s one I don’t recall. “Cole Porter’s ‘Torchiest’ Tunes?” Really??

The first impression is that this is a young Scotty Beckett, but it could just as well be an older Carl Switzer or his brother Harold.

Ah, “DuBarry Was a Lady” – yet another Broadway musical bought for the movies & shredded.
According to Imdb, only TWO Cole Porter tunes remained in the score when the film was made:
“Katie Went to Haiti” and “Friendship”, neither of which even comes close to “torchy”. (Please – , can anyone imagine Zero Mostel ( even as a kid) performing in a torchy number???)

Still, it’s not a bad picture – it’s just NOT a Cole Porter musical.
