I’m taking a break from the daily listings of history and museum news. Compiling the lists is time-consuming and they don’t seem to get many readers.

The stove was a huge source of pride in my family. I’ve been following the stove and it’s story from the 60’s. My grandfather (deceased 1973) was one someone who helped maintain the stove. This is before it’s being moved to the State Fairgrounds. RIP.

As an eight year old I remember going to the lowbrow, Follies Theater on Chicago’s Skid Row. (A friend’s father was the projectionist/follow spot man). On a south State Street lot adjacent to the Burly-Q was a still warm pile of bricks, charred wood, and broken glass. Barely readable through the smoke stain was the sign: Fireproof Hotel. That was the day I got my first taste of irony. Been craving it ever since.
