Movieland Mystery Photo

Sept. 21, 2010, Mystery Photo Los Angeles Times file photo
Just a reminder on how this works: I post the mystery photo on Monday and reveal the answer on Friday … or on Saturday if I have a hard time picking only five pictures; sometimes it's difficult to choose. To keep the mystery photo from getting lost in the other entries, I move it from Monday to Tuesday to Wednesday, etc., adding a photo every day.

I have to approve all comments, so if your guess is posted immediately, that means you're wrong. (And if a wrong guess has already been submitted by someone else, there's no point in submitting it again).

If you're right, you will have to wait until Friday or Saturday. There's no need to submit your guess five times. Once is enough. The only reward is bragging rights.

Last week’s mystery guest was Jimmy Lydon and the weekend mystery guest was William Eythe.

There’s a new photo on the jump!

For Saturday, our mystery guest has a (somewhat) mysterious companion  and … oh my, is that a really, really  bad hairpiece?

Well, she’s lovely though perhaps a bit verklempt, I haven’t any idea who she is but the boys are Jimmy Lydon, of course, Dickie Moore and Tommy Cook in a still from Bad Boy (1949). Interestingly, Jimmy Lydon gave Elizabeth Taylor her first on-screen kiss in Cynthia (1947) and Dickie Moore did the honors with Shirley Temple in Miss Annie Rooney (1942).

I agree with Jenny M. She’s Gale Sondergaard with a soupcon of Dr. Julia Hoffman.

My guess is the French actress and one time wife of Tyrone Power, Annabella. My favorite of hers is “13 Rue Madeleine.” I do though think you should give an honorable mention to jj who guessed Claire Trevor because she does look a lot like her, albeit a really peeved off Claire Trevor.

As usual, my first thought was somebody who’s probsably too well-known to be a mystery guest here, but nonetheless, that thought was Maureen O’Hara, whom I remember for regularly getting spanked by John Wayne in those cheesy old Westerns.

My first thought was Maureen O’Hara, too, but then I compared the ears and there was no match there.

    Hey Barry O’Brien,
No way Republic would light for both nipples. Monogram—maybe. But i suspect Fox.

Finally. A photo that actually rings a bell. It’s Jean Kent with Michael Redgrave in “The Browning Version,” a film I saw long ago. Hard placing her because she seemed to change her look for every film.
